A Quick Look at Fresh Paint
The user experience with Fresh Paint is very nice. It has a beautiful user interface that helps the one intuit functionality. The tools (watercolor brush, oil brush, pencils and crayons/oil pastels) are fun to use and they have specific attributes within each set of tools (for example the fan brush is different than the filbert brush). The oil brush in particular shines. You really get the feel of painting. Actually, it reminds of the popular app ArtRage but is less complicated to use. The self portrait by Matthew Roz Hall below really shows off the oil paint effect.
The color palette is excellent. In particular I liked the ability to partially mix different colors together and use that on your brush. It is similar to using a real paintbrush and loading two different colors on different sides of the brush head. I also found the color picker to work well. Slide it around until you have the desired color and it automatically loads your selected tool with it.
Another feature that folks will enjoy is the ability to import an image and convert it to wet paint. You literally start pushing the pixels around and your brush picks up the colors from the imported image.
Some Things You Might Miss
Pro features like selecting images resolution and canvas dimensions do not exist yet (that I found anyway). Also, you work on a single layer only, no multi-layer or effects options exist yet. But that doesn’t mean they won’t.
